Below is a link to a poster entitled “Qcide®: Natural insecticides for the control of flying insects” which was presented by Professor Peter Miller recently at the International Conference on Urban Pests (ICUP), held in Barcelona Spain. Professor Miller was a co-author with Bryce Peters, both of the Faculty of Science at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), and Peter May, Bio-Gene’s Executive Director of Research & Development. The poster presents results of UTS testing with Qcide against mosquitoes and houseflies, that represent two of the major pest groups impacting public health globally.
Laboratory spray tests were used to establish dose responses that demonstrated the lethal concentrations of Qcide required to both knockdown and kill insects when exposed to Qcide spray treatment. Time to achieve knockdown was also an important measure used in the tests.
These results clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of Qcide against flying insects that would be further improved with formulation development and enhanced aerosol application systems. Qcide can also be used against crawling insects and offers potential to address the widespread issue of insecticide resistance present in public health pests and to act as a “resistance breaker” in integrated pest management (IPM) programs.
